There are two Lough Erne’s in Northern Ireland, the Upper and the Lower Lough’s located in the River Erne. The waterway is mainly located in the County Fermanagh and then flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The southern lake is up the river there by calling this lake the Upper Lough and the northern lake travels down so it is called the Lower Lough.

A canal exists between the upper end part of the River Shannon and the River Erne, there are boat rides that cover the waterway. The Lough Erne is a beautiful and scenic waterway in all of Northern Ireland. The town of Enniskillen is actually located in the middle of the two lakes.

The lakes have many small islands and peninsula’s called islands because they have a rounded shoreline. The islands in the lower lakes include the Boas Islands, Cleenishmeen Island, Crevinishaugy Island, Crunnish Island, Devenish Island, Ely Island, Horse Island, Inish Doney, White Island, Lusty More Island and Lusty Beg Island.

In the upper lakes, some of the islands include, The Bleanish Island, Dernish Island, Inishcorkish Island, Trannish Island, Naan Island, Inishleague Island, Inishturk Island, Inishcreval Island and Inisihlught Island. There are so many islands to see and juts take in the beauty of the Lough Erne.
