Castle Coole is located on the outskirts of Enniskillen

the castle was the family home of the Earls of Belmore and it is under the National Trust. A man named James Wyatt designed the castle, the castle itself took ten long years to build, and construction began in 1788 and was completed in 1798. The inside of the house was designed and constructed by some craftsmen in the later 18the century. Westmacott carved the chimney pieces and Rose created the plaster work and Bartoli created the pilasters.

When you take a tour of Castle Coole, you will see the majestic staterooms and the beautiful authentic Regency furniture. You can see all of the staterooms, including the one that is rumored to have been for George IV in 1821. The castle sits on 700 acres with the park and the Lough Coole and wooded area. It gives the most beautiful backdrop.

As a visitor you can walk the grounds and the beautiful Grand Yard, the tunnel the servants would take to the castle from their quarters, the Ice House which was recently restored. There are stables, a laundry house and a display room that houses the Belmore Private Coach.

Though some of the foundation work was restored, it was completed in 1988; the Queen Mother reopened the Castle to the public. Call a head for tour time, they may vary.
